The foundational teachings of Adventism are presented on two charts, the 1843 and 1850 charts.
The 1843 chart, created by Charles Fitch and Apollos Hale, was authorized by a general conference of Adventists in 1842. It’s called the 1843 chart because on it, the prophetic periods terminate in 1843.
In 1850 Ellen White received a vision in which she was shown that another chart was needed to augment the 1843 chart. (16MR 207.1) This is the 1850 chart.
Our next conference was in Fairhaven. Brother Bates and wife were present. It was quite a good meeting. On our return to Brother Nichols’, the Lord gave me a vision and showed me that the truth must be made plain upon tables, and it would cause many to decide for the truth by the three angels’ messages, with the two former being made plain upon tables. (16MR 207.1)

The 1850 Chart was commissioned by Ellen White and added the third angel’s message and correctly identified the year of the commencement of the judgment as 1844.
